Ky. county EMS makes history with first female chief

Georgetown-Scott County EMS appointed Natalie Guerra as its first female assistant chief, marking a historic milestone for the department

SCOTT COUNTY, Ky. 鈥 Georgetown-Scott County EMS has made history by appointing Natalie Guerra as its first female assistant chief.

Guerra, who joined the department nine years ago as a part-time employee, steadily rose through the ranks, eventually becoming a full-time EMT, then a captain leading crews in the field, reported.

Now, as assistant chief, she holds the highest rank ever achieved by a woman in the department.

鈥淭his is where I wanted to be, so it鈥檚 kind of surreal that this has happened,鈥 Guerra said.

In her new role, Guerra will shift from responding to daily calls to focusing on administrative duties, including hiring, scheduling and overseeing disciplinary matters.

鈥淥n large-scale events, mass casualties and such, obviously, I will be deployed and I will assist our crews if they ever need it,鈥 Guerra said.

Guerra hopes her journey will inspire others, proving that with determination and hard work, any goal is within reach.
