Utah crews work for 3 hours to rescue teen, trapped on trail with fractured femur

A teen hiking in the Spanish Fork Canyon area was trapped when a boulder fell on top of him, breaking his leg

UTAH COUNTY, Utah — A 16-year-old was trapped on a hiking trail after a boulder fell and broke his leg, Utah rescuers told news outlets.

First responders made their way to Red Ledges, a hiking area in Spanish Fork Canyon, at 7:22 p.m. Friday, June 14, the Utah County Sheriff’s Office said in a June 15 news release.

It took three hours to rescue the teen, and the video shows crews working into the night by the light of headlamps. A helicopter was also used to help extract him from the rugged terrain, video shows.

The teen was taken to a hospital for treatment, rescuers said. Officials have not commented on the teen’s condition.

Red Ledges is a roughly 25-mile drive southeast from Provo.
