Best kettlebells for your home or department gym

Strengthen your on-duty and off-duty workouts with kettlebells that promise durability and versatility for all fitness levels

Kettlebells

Versatility when it comes to exercise equipment is all about doing more with less. When I think about one item that is extremely versatile, compact, and that I can do a ton with, the first thing that comes to mind is a kettlebell. Kettlebells are a truly a weight room gem, as you can do everything from weight training, to cardio, stability and balance exercises with just one kettlebell. Additionally, exercising with kettlebells has immense benefits for your core, posterior chain and cardiovascular health.

Kettlebell exercises: Ballistic and grinding

Many experts recommend using at least two different sizes when training with kettlebells, allowing two different training styles, called ballistic and grinding. Ballistic exercises involve more explosive movements, such as cleans and snatches. Grinding exercises tend to have a slower progression, and include maneuvers like overhead presses and squats.

Gravity plays a role in ballistic exercises, while grinding exercises involve a more calculated, coordinated movement. For this reason, many suggest using heavier kettlebells for ballistic movements and lighter kettlebells for grinding.

Another thing worth considering when looking at kettlebells is the handle diameter, and if it’s comfortable in your hands. All of that being said, here are my top picks for kettlebells.
