MOUNT HOLLY SPRINGS, Pa. 鈥� A former chief Yellow Breeches EMS in South Middleton Township will spend up to 17 years in state prison for sexual assault and other charges, the Cumberland County District Attorney鈥檚 Office announced Tuesday.
After a four-day trial, a jury convicted Douglas Allen Shields, 55, of Mount Holly Springs, of statutory sexual assault, aggravated indecent assault, corruption of minors, sexual assault by a volunteer or employee of a nonprofit and indecent assault.
Common Pleas Judge Albert H. Masland sentenced him Monday to an aggregate sentence of 6.5 to 17 years in state prison followed by three years of probation.
Shields will also register with Megan鈥檚 Law for the rest of his life, the DA鈥檚 Office said.
Yellow Breeches EMS chief charged with sexual abuse of teen at station, home
Yellow Breeches EMS posted on Facebook that Shields has been suspended indefinitely from his position and employment with the company, pending the outcome of the criminal case.
Carlisle Pennsylvania State Police Trooper Jacob Fackler鈥檚 investigation revealed that he used his position to sexually abuse a teen in Yellow Breeches EMS鈥檚 junior EMT program. The incidents happened in 2021, The Sentinel reported in 2023.
Shields touched the victim鈥檚 breasts, kissed her, put his hand into her pants and had sex with her at the EMS station, according to the DA鈥檚 Office. The victim shared an impact statement during the sentencing proceeding Monday.
Fackler鈥檚 investigation also identified multiple other victims dating back to the 鈥�90s who claimed Shields used his position to make inappropriate sexual advances. The DA鈥檚 Office said each of the other victims, who were all young women, said they were hesitant to report the abuse due to Shields鈥� status.
Senior Assistant District Attorney Lauren Perchinski and First Assistant District Attorney Courtney Hair LaRue prosecuted the case, and the DA鈥檚 Office thanked Fackler and Victim Advocate Jen Boyle for their work.
