Milwaukee FD launches new medic unit with reopening of firehouse

City leaders held a ribbon-cutting ceremony to unveil Medic 8 at Station 28 and the reopening of Station 31

MILWAUKEE 鈥 The Milwaukee Fire Department has added a paramedic unit to Station 18 at 30th and St. Paul to serve the Merrill Park neighborhood.

The EMS demand in that neighborhood includes calls for trauma injuries from gunshots and stabbings, reckless driving and overdoses, reported.

鈥淲e have seen such an incredible demand for services, specifically at that advanced life support level,鈥 Fire Chief Aaron Lipski said.

鈥淲e鈥檙e not waiting for someone else to come, we鈥檙e riding with this med unit to the hospital, we鈥檙e giving them more hands in the back being paramedics,鈥 Lieutenant Paramedic Kendria Donaldson said. 鈥淚t鈥檚 an amazing thing for the community and I鈥檓 super excited to have it.鈥

In addition to the new paramedic unit, leaders also reopened a firehouse, Station 31, which closed in 2017 because of budget cuts.

鈥淭he recommission of Fire Station 31 and Engine 31 is made possible by budgeting we did in the 2025 city budget. A reflection of our commitment, all of our commitment to public safety in Milwaukee,鈥 said Milwaukee Mayor Cavalier Johnson.

In its first day, Medic 8 responded to 13 calls.
