NEW CASTLE COUNTY, Del. — A New Year’s Day collision on Interstate 95 left one driver dead and several others injured, according to the New Castle County Police Department.

The crash occurred around 2:30 a.m. on Jan. 1, near the I-495 interchange. Paramedics in a marked Ford F-350 were traveling southbound with emergency lights activated to respond to a crash on the left shoulder. As they made a lane change, their vehicle collided with a 2013 Nissan Altima, reported.

The Altima, driven by a 33-year-old woman of Newark, also carried a 6-year-old boy as a passenger. The woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

The 6-year-old passenger sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to a nearby children’s hospital.

The two paramedics involved were also transported to a hospital and are reported to be in stable condition.

The incident remains under investigation.
